Assorted Compaq LTE 5000 Downloads
Since it seems that things have gone
from bad to worse over at what passes for Hewlett-Packard these days,
with their official support policy only covering products ten years of
age or less,
it seems fairly certain that the darkness is going to fall on
everything they have for older but still very useful products like the
Compaq LTE 5000.
I went ahead and grabbed everything
for the Compaq LTE 5000 series systems. These are the original,
unaltered files as Compaq and later HP distributed them.
If you've got the means to mirror ftp.hp.com,
I would strongly encourage you to do so. It's not a task for the faint
of heart. The last I checked, doing so would require at least 8TB worth
of disk storage and a system which preserves mixed-case file names.
Many ISPs would flip out (to use a technical term) at this kind of data
transfer volume and it's also possible that HP might notice and cut you
off. (If you work for Hewlett-Packard and would be willing to
exfiltrate the publicly available parts of their FTP server, I'd very
much like to talk to you. Let's make this happen, before it's too late! Or if you won't talk to me, talk to Archive Team!)
I'll get around to sorting and
improving this in time, and posting descriptions of what each package
does. I'm not making any promises as to when I'll actually do this.
Until then, you can download the "all" (ZIP file) packages for your
operating system, read the text files that explain what some of the
packages contain, or just download them all.
Windows 3.1x (all)
Windows 95/98 (all)
Windows NT (all)
OS/2 (all)
07.20 BIOS Update
If you really want the 07.32 BIOS
update, it's in the Windows 95/98 area (as SP7804). I don't recommend you use it,
since it seems to introduce a MAJOR POST delay on some LTE 5000
systems. These downloads should also be relevant for other members of
the Compaq LTE 5000 family.
Every reasonable effort has been made to ensure that these files are functional and suitable for use. However, they are provided strictly as a courtesy.
I'm not responsible for the results of your using these files, whether
good or bad. Use your brain, especially if you're dealing with an old
system where the heavy layer of dust may be the only thing keeping it
alive! If you cannot accept all of the responsibility for use of these
files, don't use them!
