Microsoft Windows NT Installation Instructions for IBM PC Servers ----------------------------------------------------------------- The instructions below describe how to use the IBM PC Server Windows NT Support Diskette to install Microsoft Windows NT Version 3.51 on these computers: * IBM PC Server array models * IBM PC Server non-disk-array models Before you use the Support Diskette to install Windows NT Version 3.51, your server must be at flash BIOS level Build ID 09A (the flash BIOS level is displayed during the computer startup). Contact IBM PC Server Support if you need to update your flash BIOS level. In the U.S., call 1-800-772-2227. In Canada, call 1-800-565-3344. In all other countries, contact the IBM support organization that services your area, your IBM marketing representative, or your IBM reseller. IBM PC Server Array Models -------------------------- Materials required: * IBM SCSI-2 Fast/Wide PCI-Bus RAID Adapter Option Diskette * Windows NT Version 3.51 installation diskettes (3) * IBM PC Server Windows NT SMP Support Diskette * Windows NT Version 3.51 CD-ROM To install the IBM SCSI-2 Fast/Wide PCI-Bus RAID Adapter Option Diskette: 1. Start the IBM SCSI-2 Fast/Wide PCI-Bus RAID Adapter Option Diskette. 2. Configure your computer for the desired physical arrays and logical drives. 3. Initialize the arrays (15% minimum). Note: Instructions for configuring and initializing arrays are in your User's Handbook. To use the Window NT installation diskettes: 1. Start the Windows NT Setup Boot diskette and follow the instructions on the screen to begin the installation process. When the message "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware information" appears, press F5. 2. The message "Setup could not determine the type of computer you have, or you have chosen to manually specify the computer type" appears. Note: If you see a message prompting you to insert Windows NT Setup Disk 2, you did not press F5 at the appropriate time. Restart the Windows NT Setup Boot diskette and start the installation again. 3. Select "other." 4. Insert the IBM PC Server Windows NT Support Diskette. Then, press Enter. 5. Use the cursor to highlight either uniprocessor or multiprocessor. Then, press Enter. 6. Follow the prompts until the Express/Custom menu appears. 7. Press C for Custom Setup. 8. Press S to Skip Mass Storage Detection. 9. Press S to Specify additional SCSI adapters. 10. Press Enter to select "other." 11. Insert the IBM SCSI-2 Fast/Wide PCI-Bus RAID Adapter Option Diskette in drive A. Then, press Enter. 12. Select the device driver for Windows NT Version 3.5. Then, press Enter. 13. Press Enter to bypass detection of mass storage devices. 14. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation. IBM PC Server Non-Disk-Array Models ----------------------------------- Materials required: * Windows NT Version 3.51 installation diskettes (3) * Adaptec 7800 Family Manager Set - v1.10 diskette * IBM PC Server Windows NT SMP Support Diskette * Windows NT Version 3.51 CD-ROM To set SCSI Host Controller parameters: 1. During the computer startup, watch the screen for the message starting "Adaptec AIC-78xx BIOS...." Before you see a message that the BIOS has been installed, press CTRL A to start the SCSISelect utility program. Note: If you press CTRL A after the BIOS has been installed, you must restart the computer to access the SCSISelect utility program. 2. Select "Configure/View Host Adapter Settings." 3. Select "Advanced Configuration Options." 4. Set the "Extended BIOS Translation for DOS Drives > 1 GByte" to Disable. 5. Set the "Reverse Scan" to Disable. 6. Save your changes. To use the Windows NT installation diskettes: 1. Start the Windows NT Setup Boot diskette and follow the instructions on the screen to start the installation process.
