Type 4 processor board READOS2.ME 6/21/94 ________________________________________________________________ Upgrading the POST/BIOS to Bios level >= 3. OS2 Version 2.0+ ________________________________________________________________ Before upgrading the POST/Bios the new IBM2SCSI.ADD must be copied from the POST/BIOS flash diskette to the OS2 subdirectory. This may be done by using DDINSTAL from the OS2 command prompt and installing this diskette when prompted, or by manually copying the file. A trap error will occur if the post/bios is at bios revision level >= 3 and a downlevel IBM2SCSI.ADD is installed on the system. DELIVERY.SYS may also be added to the Config.sys file for improved performance. The OS2 installation diskette 1 should also be updated with the latest IBM2SCSI.ADD at this time so that OS2 may be reinstalled at a later time. Copy the file to a copy of installation diskette 1. ________________________________________________________________ IBM PS/2 SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Support This README file contains instructions for installing the IBM PS/2 SCSI-2 device drivers for OS/2 2.0 or later. It is recommended that you print this README file prior to installing the files. ______________________________________________________ Installing SCSI-2 Device Drivers for OS/2 2.0 or Later ------------------------------------------------------ Use the instructions in this section if you have OS/2 2.0 or later installed. Turn on the display and server. Put the support diskette in drive A. From any OS/2 full-screen session, type: DDINSTAL and press Enter. Select "IBM PS/2 SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Adapter Support Installation" from the menu and press Enter. This copies the SCSI-2 device drivers to your hard disk and adds these BASEDEV statements to your CONFIG.SYS file if the following statements are not there: BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD /LED BASEDEV=DELIVERY.SYS If your server had IBM SCSI-2 device drivers previously installed, and you added extra parameters to the above statement, you need to check your CONFIG.SYS file and ensure that it has only one BASEDEV statement for the IBM2SCSI.ADD. If you find two similar statements, you need to delete the extraneous statement from the CONFIG.SYS file, as follows: REM BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD /LED In addition, you should check for the presence of a BASEDEV statement for the IBM2M57.ADD device driver in the CONFIG.SYS file. If this statement is present, it should also be deleted or removed as follows: REM BASEDEV=IBM2M57.ADD ________________________________________________________________ Adding SCSI-2 Device Driver to the installation diskettes ________________________________________________________________ Make a copy of OS2 Diskette 1. Copy the new IBM2SCSI.ADD from the POST/BIOS Flash Diskette to the backup copy of OS2 Diskette 1. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on the backup copy of OS/2 Diskette 1 and check for the presence of a BASEDEV statement for the IBM2M57.ADD device driver in the CONFIG.SYS file. If this statement is present, it should also be deleted or removed as follows: REM BASEDEV=IBM2M57.ADD OS2 will boot and install normally. After installation, use DDINSTAL to install the DELIVERY.SYS BASEDEV, or manually update the Config.sys file. ________________________________________________________________ SCSI-2 Device Drivers during CD ROM installation ________________________________________________________________ Make a copy of the OS2 Diskette 1. Copy the new IBM2SCSI.ADD from Flash Diskette to the backup copy of OS2 Diskette 1. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on the backup copy of OS/2 Diskette 1 and check for the presence of a BASEDEV statement for the IBM2M57.ADD device driver in the CONFIG.SYS file. If this statement is present, it should also be deleted or removed as follows: REM BASEDEV=IBM2M57.ADD Install OS2 from the CD ROM. When prompted to reboot the system, reboot the system with the OS2 install disk inserted. Insert the backup copy of Diskette 1 when prompted. When the Welcome to OS/2 screen appears press escape to exit to a command prompt. Copy IBM2SCSI.ADD from the OS2 diskette 1 or from the flash diskette to the OS2 directory on the hard file. Copy DELIVERY.SYS to the directory also. Remove the diskette and reboot the system. The OS2 installation will continue. Add the DELIVERY.SYS line to the Config.sys file after installation is complete. ________________________________________________________________ FRU replacement of a downlevel processor ________________________________________________________________ Requires that the 3 diskettes of the Reference Diskette package be available for all type 4 processors, as the existing processor and the system partition may be downlevel from that of the FRU. ________________________________________________________________ OS2 2.0+ information for FRU replacement. ________________________________________________________________ The new IBMSCSI.ADD may be manually copied to the OS2 subdirectory. The following procedure will update the OS2 install diskettes and offers a method to boot to a HPFS formatted drive. Make a copy of the OS2 disk 1. Copy the new IBM2SCSI.ADD from the POST/BIOS flash diskette to disk 1. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on the backup copy of OS/2 Diskette 1 and check for the presence of a BASEDEV statement for the IBM2M57.ADD device driver in the CONFIG.SYS file. If this statement is present, it should also be deleted or removed as follows: REM BASEDEV=IBM2M57.ADD Boot install disk insert disk 1 with new IBM2SCSI.ADD when prompted Press escape at the "Welcome to OS2" information screen to exit. If the boot partition is FAT, skip to the next step. If the boot partition is HPFS, insert disk 2 and type "CHKDSK", which will load HPFS device drivers. If the Installation media was CD ROM, the system will prompt for the CDROM and load the drivers automatically. Copy the new IBMSCSI.ADD to the OS2 directory. Copy DELIVERY.SYS to the OS2 directory. Verify the Config.sys file contains the two BASEDEV lines for IBM2SCSI.ADD and DELIVERY.SYS. End of Text.
