The the user may Hot Swap the failed adapter and fail back to the replaced primary adapter. Under a heavy load, loss of performance might be observed after either the failover or fail back procedures. (b) When hot adding a number of different adapter combinations of Netfinity 10/100, IBM PCI Token Ring and IBM ServeRAID II adapters, on some occasions the user may experience the failure of the IBM PCI Token Ring adapter. (c) When a user Hot Swaps a IBM ServeRAID II adapter, it is critical that the Hot Swap directions are followed exactly as explained in the Hot Swap wizard dialog pop-up windows and the users manual. Failure to follow the users guide may result in a lock-up of the system unit. Intermittently, when a system is rebooted to reset the unit, the RAID configuration may be lost. (d) When performing a Hot Swap of a IBM ServeRAID II adapter under heavy load conditions the operating system may hault, causing the system service processor to time out and reboot the system before the replaced IBM ServeRAID II adapter has been configured, resulting in the loss of the disk array. --------------------- HOT PLUG BETA CONTACT --------------------- If you experience additional problems, or have questions concerning the installation and setup of the Hot Plug software. If you already have an IBM Netfinity 10/100 Fault Tolerant or IBM Fault Tolerant ServeRAID II adapter configured on your system, the drivers must be removed and then re-installed with these latest drivers. A reboot will be required. 1. Download the fault tolerant driver files from the IBM Netfinity Support web page and extract the files onto a diskette. 2. Place the diskette into the floppy drive. 3. Proceed with the normal upgrade of the adapter drivers. See your Windows NT documentation for information about upgrading drivers. 4. Reboot ----------------------------------------------- Tips to Know before using PCI Hot Plug features ----------------------------------------------- 1. Hot Plug Drivers In order to support any of the Hot Plug features, you must install the Fault Tolerant drivers. If you already have an IBM Netfinity 10/100 Fault Tolerant or IBM Fault Tolerant ServeRAID II adapter configured on your system, the drivers must be removed and then re-instaleed with these latest drivers. A reboot will be required. 2. Hot Add of an Adapter previously removed When an administrator attempts to Hot-Add a Raid or SCSI adapter on a Hot Plug system which has already had the adapter installed on it and then removed, the Hot Add will fail. The administrator is strongly advised to mark all SCSI drivers which have no device as "DISABLED" via the Devices Control Applet. This will prevent the driver from being started and allow the Hot Add to proceed normally. 3. MAC address incorrect (all zeros) for Hot Added card After a Hot Add of a NIC Card, the MAC addresses are being returned as all zeros (000000000000). This does not affect the abilities of the adapter. 4. Hot Removed This feature is NOT supported. 5. Best Time to perform PCI Hot Plug action It is highly recommended to perform any of the PCI Hot Plug features during low traffic. 6. Reboot Message After an Hot Add of an adapters, the Windows NT applications (Network Applet and SCSI Applet) will ask the user for a Reboot. DO NOT REBOOT 7. Hot Swap of ServeRAID II During a Hot Swap of a stand alone ServeRAID II adapter, any I/O performed on the adapter during this operations will be failed. Error messages might appear. ------------------------------------ Trademarks and Service Marks ------------------------------------ The following terms, denoted by an asterisk (*) in this README, are trademarks or registered trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries: ------------------------------------------ IBM ------------------------------------------ NetFinity ------------------------------------------ ServeRAID ------------------------------------------ The following terms, denoted by a double asterisk (**) in this README, are trademarks of other companies as follows: Trademark: Owner: -------------------------------------------------------------- Windows NT Microsoft, Inc. -------------------------------------------------------------- THIS DOCUMENT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
