Installation Notes for Installing the Driver for Windows NT I. The OEMSETNT.INF File The OEMSETNT.INF file is the installation file for the NDIS3 and NDIS4 driver for Windows NT. The Windows NT Setup program searches first for an OEMSETUP.INF file for the Windows NT environment. If the Setup program does not find such file, the program searches for the OEMSETNT.INF file. II. NT3.51 and NT4.0 Driver Installation The OEMSETNT.INF file will determine which version of Windows NT you are installing. The NDIS3 driver IBMEIMP3.SYS will load with NT3.51 and NDIS4 driver IBMEIMP.SYS will load with NT4.0 and later. IBM EtherJet ISA Adapter drivers are not included with NT3.51 and NT4.0 therefore you will be required to use the device driver diskette DISK 1. To install the EtherJet ISA Adapter on your NT4.0 system, perform the following steps. 1) From the "My Computer" icon select "Control Panel". 2) Select "Network" icon and click on "Adapters". Add adapter. 3) Select "Have Disk...", insert device driver diskette Disk 1 and then select OK. 4) The Select OEM Option window is presented. Make sure that IBM EtherJet ISA Adapters is selected. Select OK. 5) If you are installing a single adapter you are not required to enter the serial number. Select Continue. A serial number is required only when installing multiple adapters. 6) If required enter locally administered address. Select Continue. 7) By default the EtherJet adapter Duplex Mode is set to Auto negotiate. If you have a hub or switch that does not support Auto negotiate then set the adapter Duplex mode to Full Duplex or Half Duplex. 8) Select required Services, Protocols, and bindings. This completes the installation. To install the EtherJet ISA Adapter on your NT3.51 system, perform the following steps. 1) From "Main" icon select "Control Panel" icon. 2) Select "Network" icon and click on "Add Adapter". 3) Choose Requires disk from manufacturer. Continue. 4) You will be promoted to insert the manufacture's diskette. Insert the device drivers diskette in drive A. The path is A:\ Select OK. 5) The Select OEM Option window is presented. Make sure the IBM EtherJet ISA Adapter is selected. Select OK. 6) Repeat steps 5, 6, and 7 from NT4.0 installation. 7) Select required Protocols and bindings. This completes the installation. III. Installing the IBM EtherJet ISA adapter on Non Plug and Play machine The IBM EtherJet ISA adapter was configured with Plug and Play enabled by default. To run the NT driver on the Non Plug and Play machine, you MUST disable the adapter card's Plug and Play hardware. To disable the Plug and Play hardware, do one of the following procedures: a> 1. Install LANAID on your DOS system. (The LANAID will not work on NT system) 2. Follow the LANAID user interface to determine whether your system is Plug and Plug. 3. If your machine is a NON Plug and Play machine, follow the LANAID user interface to disable the Plug and Plug hardware on the adapter. If your machine is a Plug and Play machine, then do nothing and exit LANAID. 4. Power off and Power on the machine. b> 1. Boot the machine with LANAIDC. 2. Enter /V to view the machine Plug and Play status. 3. If your machine is a NON Plug and Play machine, follow the LANAID user interface to disable the Plug and Plug hardware on the adapter. If your machine is a Plug and Play machine, then do nothing and exit LANAID. 4. Select and configure the non conflict resources for your adapter, such as interrupt, IO base address or Memory Map address. 5. Power off and Power on the machine. III. Updating the Driver If you try to Update the IBM EtherJet ISA Adapter driver for Windows NT, the Setup program may not locate the OEMSETNT.INF file. This is a known problem that Microsoft plans to fix. If you encounter this problem, use one of the following procedures: -- Create a new subdirectory on the Option Diskette and perform the Update by using that directory: 1. Make a new subdirectory A:\NT on the IBM EtherJet ISA Adapter Option Diskette. 2. Copy the following files from the root directory to the A:\NT subdirectory: - OEMSETNT.INF - IBMEIWNT.SYS 3. In the A:\NT subdirectory, rename the OEMSETNT.INF file to OEMSETUP.INF. 4. Use the Windows NT Setup program to perform the Update. Note: When the Setup program prompts you for the path of the OEMSETUP.INF file, type A:\NT. -- Create a diskette for the Windows NT driver files and perform the Update by using that diskette: 1. Format a blank diskette. 2. Copy the following files from the root directory of the IBM EtherJet ISA Adapter Option Diskette to the root directory of the second diskette: - OEMSETNT.INF - IBMEIWNT.SYS - DISK1 3. Rename the OEMSETNT.INF file to OEMSETUP.INF. 4. Use the Windows NT Setup program to perform the Update.
