IBM EtherJet ISA Adapter README file for NDIS2 (10.21.95) -------------------------------------------------------- I. NDIS 2 DEVICE DRIVER NAMES -------------------------- The device driver name for the first adapter instance has changed, and may be different than shown in the publications that came with your adapter. The name was changed to conform to installation programs that support multiple adapters of the same type. The installation files have been updated to support this name change but if you are making manual changes to the installation, here are the device driver names to use: IBMEIN$ for the first instance IBMEIN2$ for the second instance IBMEIN3$ for the third instance II. HARDWARE FAILURES DURING BIND ----------------------------- If you experience failures during initialization (specifically while the protocol stack is attempting to bind to the EtherJet NDIS driver) that point to the hardware, check the following: - You must have the card connected to a working media. During the bind process, if the card supports multiple media connections, the hardware attempts to select the media based on which port is connected to an active network. If you are using DOS you can see the driver messages that indicate which media is selected, or if there is a media failure. If you are using OS/2 the only indication of a media failure may be an initialization failure pointing to a hardware failure. - If you are using the card in a PC that does not have Plug and Play support, be sure the card is not set up for Plug and Play, and be sure there are no hardware conflicts (IO address or IRQ). III. INSTALLING WITH IBM DOS LAN SERVICES (DLS) ------------------------------------------ If you have difficulty installing the EtherJet adapter with the IBM DOS LAN Services (DLS) product, try using the following procedure. If you are not installing from the "a:" drive, you need to change occurrences of "a:" to the drive you are using. Specific text to be entered is shown in quotes, it should be entered without the quotes. DOS LAN SERVICES may be referred to as DLS. 1) Install Dos 5.0 or higher 2) Insert DOS LAN SERVICES Disk 1 into drive a: 3) Enter "a:install" 4) Press ENTER on the first screen (Welcome to DLS) 5) Accept the default installation subdirectory (C:\NET), or change it to what you want and press ENTER. 6) On the screen that asks you to "Select the type of network card.." choose "IBM LAN Adapter for Ethernet (IBMENI.DOS)". This is not the correct selection for the EtherJet ISA Adapter but this is corrected in a later step. 7) On the "Machine ID" screen, enter the desired name of your machine and press ENTER. 8) On the "Userid name" screen, enter your default userid and press ENTER. 9) On the "DOMAIN NAME" screen enter your default DOMAIN and press ENTER. 10) On the "The listed options are correct." screen press ENTER when all options are correct. 11) On the next "The listed options are correct." screen press ENTER when all options are correct. 12) When prompted, enter DLS Disk 2 and press ENTER. 13) When prompted, enter DLS Disk 3 and press ENTER. 14) When installation is complete press F3 to exit 15) Move to the c:\net subdirectory (or the directory where you installed DLS). 16) Edit protocol.ini under [IBM$ENI] - change driver name to IBMEIN$ - delete the next three lines that specify "interrupt=5", "iobase=0x360", and "ramaddress=0xD000" - Save and exit the file 17) Switch to the root directory where config.sys is located. 18) Edit config.sys - change "DEVICE=C:\NET\IBMENI.DOS" to DEVICE=C:\NET\IBMEINDI.DOS - save and exit the file 19) Insert EtherJet Device driver diskette. 20) Copy the EtherJet DOS NDIS2 driver to the DLS subdirectory via "copy a:\dos\ibmeindi.dos c:\net" 21) Reboot your machine.
