Novell has moved some of its infrequently used kernel function calls from CLIB.NLM to CLIBAUX.NLM. For this reason, you may need to make sure that CLIBAUX is installed prior to installing the device driver. If your server does not have CLIBAUX.NLM, a copy can be obtained from Novell's web site: http://support.novell.com 1.2 Advanced System Management Adapter Firmware o Fixed erroneous fan failure indications on PC Server 330 systems at low temperatures 1.3 Advanced System Management Adapter Device Driver for OS/2 o Fixed an installation bug when the current directory is a:\os2. 1.4 Advanced System Management Adapter Device Driver for Novell NetWare 5 o The Service Processor driver has been upgraded to include support for Netware 5.0. The same driver can be used for Netware 3.2, 4.x and 5.0 operating systems. For Netware 5.0, an updated fix for MPS14.PSM file (available in Support Pack 2 for Netware 5.0) may be required. This file can be downloaded from Novell's web site : http://support.novell.com 1.5 Unattended installation mode for Microsoft Windows NT. This option will install the Windows NT Service Processor Driver without requiring user intervention to answer screen prompts, unless an error occurs during installation. See the installation instructions in sections 2.3 or 2.4 for command syntax. 2.0 Installing this update ___________________________ 2.1 Stopping the Netfinity Manager application program If Netfinity is running on the Server it is necessary to stop the program, prior to installation of the device drivers. For NT and OS/2: Close any open Netfinity windows. Then at the command prompt type NETFBASE SHUTDOWN For Netware: Unload the Netfinity Support Program. For more details on how to shutdown the NetFinity application please refer to the NetFinity documentation. 2.2 To install the updated microcode on this diskette: 1) Insert this diskette into the diskette drive and reboot your system 2) Choose option 3 (Update Service Processor) 3) Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the update 4) If you will be performing a first-time installation of an Advanced System Management Adapter device driver, please read section 2.3 of this read.me file now. 5) When prompted to do so, remove the diskette from the drive and reboot your system. 6) If you will be upgrading an already installed Advanced System Management Adapter device driver, please read section 2.4 of this read.me file now. 2.3 First time installation of the Advanced System Management Adapter Device Drivers This diskette contains Windows NT, OS/2 and Novell NetWare device drivers for servers that have the Advanced System Management Adapter. The initial installation of these drivers requires an information file be created, and added to this diskette. This can be accomplished by following the steps listed below. If you came here from step 4 in section 2.2 then you can start with step 2) below. 1) Insert this diskette into the diskette drive and reboot your system 2) Choose option 1 (Configure Service Processor) 3) Select the I/O port address you wish to use for this adapter 4) Select the interrupt vector you wish to use for this adapter 5) The information file has now been written to this diskette 6) Choose option 6 (Exit), remove the diskette and reboot your system. 7) After the operating system (NT, OS/2 or NetWare) comes up, re-insert this diskette and bring up a command prompt window, screen or session. 8) For OS/2: Type A:\OS2\SETUP For Windows NT: Type A:\NT\SETUP ( For unattended mode, type A:\NT\SETUP /q) For Novell NetWare: Type LOAD A:\NETWARE\SETUP 9) Follow the directions that appear on the screen. 2.4 Upgrading the Advanced System Management Adapter Device Drivers If an Advanced System Management Adapter Device Driver has already been installed on the server, then that driver can be upgraded to the version on this diskette by following the procedure shown below. Make sure that Netfinity Manager is stopped (see section 2.1 of this read.me) before upgrading the driver. 1) Insert this diskette into the diskette drive 2) Bring up a command prompt window, screen or session in the operating system that is currently running on the server 3) For OS/2: Type A:\OS2\SETUP UPGRADE For Windows NT: Type A:\NT\SETUP UPGRADE (For unattended mode, type A:\NT\SETUP UPGRADE /q) For Novell NetWare: Type LOAD A:\NETWARE\SETUP UPGRADE 4) Follow the directions that appear on the screen. 3.0 Other Required Software ____________________________ This section lists other software that must be installed in order to utilize the full functionality of this software update. o Service Processor Manager version 2.0 or higher for Netfinity Manager or Client Services version 5.0 or above. o Your system must have the minimum level POST/BIOS listed below installed: System Type Models Level ______ ____ ______ _____ PC Server 325 8639 -EJ0, -ES0, -RS0, -ESV 40A or higher PC Server 325 8639 -PT0, -PTW, -PB0, -RB0 12A or higher PC Server 330 8640 -EM2, -ES0, -ES2, -ESS 40A or higher PC Server 330 8640 -PT0, -PTW, -PB0 12A or higher BIOS updates are available by calling the IBM HelpCenter or for downloading over the World Wide Web. Enter the following URL: http://www.pc.ibm.com 4.0 Known Limitations ______________________ The following limitations exist with the current adapter firmware, system hardware, or system firmware. - Dialout on "Tamper Alerts" for physical tamper is not supported. Dialout on "Tamper Alerts" for remote tampers is supported. A remote tamper is defined as six consecutive failed login attempts. - Use of the Caller ID string is not supported - Alerts for redundant power supply failures is not supported - Alerts for "Boot failures" are not supported 5.0 Note to Novell NetWare users _________________________________ 5.1 Fixing a corrupt AUTOEXEC.NCF file During the installation process a line is added to the AUTOEXEC.NCF file which automatically loads the Advanced Systems Management Adapter device driver (IBMSPN.NLM) whenever NetWare is started. There are three additional parameters on this line that tell the driver how to communicate with the Advanced Systems Management Adapter card. If the driver is ever unloaded and reloaded manually from the NetWare console screen, be sure to use the same parameters that are shown in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file. If different parameters are used, the system may hang or abnormally end (ABEND). --- HOW TO FIX AN AUTOEXEC.NCF THAT CONTAINS INCORRECT PARAMETERS --- If the line in the AUTOEXEC.NFC file that loads the Advanced Systems Management Adapter device driver (IBMSPN.NLM) is accidentally changed, and the additional parameters are not correct, it is recommended that the device driver be installed again, using the Advanced Systems Management Adapter device driver installation process. If this cannot be done because the system hangs or ABENDs when NetWare is booted, then the line needs to be commented out or removed from the AUTOEXEC.NCF file by using the following commands: boot the system in DOS cd nwserver server -na This starts NetWare without executing the AUTOEXEC.NCF file, and the AUTOEXEC.NCF file can now be edited to comment out or remove the line that loads the IBMSPN.NLM driver. NetWare can now be restarted normally and the device driver can be installed again, using the Advanced Systems Management Adapter device driver installation process. 5.2 Advanced Systems Management Adapter device driver does not install If the Advanced Systems Management Adapter device driver does not install, you will need to verify that your server has the latest Novell software patches installed. Novell maintains a list of these patches on their web site, at http://support.novell.com. Once at this site, click on "Minimum Patch List". Currently, the latest patch for NetWare 4.11 is LIBUPH.EXE. For NetWare 3.12, it is LIB312A.EXE. These software patches can also be downloaded from this site. 6.0 Trademarks and Notices ___________________________ The following terms are trademarks of the IBM Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: IBM Netfinity The following terms are trademarks of the Novell Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: Novell NetWare The following terms are trademarks of the Microsoft Corporation in the United States or other countries or both: Microsoft Windows NT THIS DOCUMENT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND.
