DLT Tools is an application that will allow you to perform diagnostics and maintenance functions to the 20/40GB, 35/70GB, and 40/80GB IBM DLT technology tape drives. The latest firmware updates for all DLT tape drives are provided on the IBM Personal System Group support web pages. These files come in an image format(xxx.img) that when exercised by DLT Tools will update the tape drive to the current level. To perform an update: 1. Run the ASPI32.EXE setup program to install the ASPI support layer. 2. Ensure that all media is removed from the tape drive prior to an firmware update. 3. Stop any tape services that maybe starting automatically. 4. Execute the DLT Tools application. 5. Within the application the first screen will list all host SCSI controllers seen by the operating system. Select the appropriate SCSI controller where the DLT tape drive can be found. 6. The second screen will identify devices and associated SCSI ID's that are found attached to the selected host SCSI adapter. Insert the SCSI ID of the appropriate DLT tape backup device. 7. Select File > then > Select a FUP file. The application will search for the location of the appropriate image file(xxx.img) to be used in the upgrade process. 8. After directing the wizard to the appropriate image file the update process is fully automated.
