IBM ThinkPad 380Z February 19, 1999 System Program Service Diskette Version 1.03 ======================================================================== What This Diskette Does ----------------------- The System Program Service Diskette given here can update the system program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions. The supported model is as follows. - ThinkPad 380Z To determine if you have to update the system program or not, please refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the system program, please refer to the "Updating System Program" section. Released Versions ----------------- Version 1.03 A problem fix Version 1.02 Problem fixes Version 1.01 A problem fix Version 1.00 (Initial Release) Problem fixes Summary of Changes ------------------ Key: Diskette Version (for example, 1.04 means Version 1.04) (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.03> - (Fix) Version of BIOS is not displayed correctly by LANClient Control Manager. <1.02> - (Fix) Conforming to a new revision of video chip. - (Fix) If the system is powered with battery power, some PC Cards can not be shut down correctly when the system is shut down. - (Fix) (Windows 98 APM Mode only) Microsoft IntelliMouse is disabled when the system returns to normal operation from the standby mode. - (Fix) (OS/2 HPFS format only) If there is an unformatted hard disk partition other than the HPFS formatted hard disk partition where a hibernation file is to be created, the system can't go into the hibernation mode. <1.01> - (Fix) The System Program update can't be done with the following error messages if the TrackPoint is disabled. - Run-time error R6003 - Integer divided by 0 Note: This diskette (Version 1.01) has the same level of System Program (BIOS) as the previous level of diskette (Version 1.00) has. So you don't need to update the System Program again with this System Program Service Diskette if you could do that with the Version 1.00 successfully. <1.00> - (Fix) Password can not be input when the system goes into standby mode (rather than suspend) by the suspend timer function if the system is attached to a Port Replicator. - (Fix) UUID (Universally Unique ID) should be displayed as lower case characters. - (Fix) (Windows 98 only) The Windows screen appears when the system resumes to normal operation from the standby mode if 'resume on incoming call' or 'scheduled tasks' option is enabled. (This is out of Windows 98's design.) - (Fix) (Windows 95 only) The system may hang during Windows 95 installation under some conditions. Updating System Program ----------------------- To determine if you have to update the system program or not, please refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If your computer is attached to any kinds of Port Replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding. 1. Print these instructions or display on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. Select "Read this first..." from the menu and carefully read the information that appears. 5. Press the Esc key to return to the menu. 6. Select "Update system program" and follow the instruction on the screen. Warning: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF OR SUSPEND THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. After the update has been completed, run the diagnostics to make sure that the computer runs with no errors: 7. Make sure the System Program Service Diskette is removed from the diskette drive, then turn off the computer. 8. Press and hold the F1 key, then turn on the computer. Hold the F1 key until the Easy-Setup menu appears. 9. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password. 10. Select Test, then select Start to run all the basic tests. Various test patterns will appear on the screen. An OK will appear for each device that passes the test. 11. Verify that OK appears for all of the devices tested. 12. Press the Esc key to exit Test and turn off the computer. The BIOS version and BIOS date can be viewed by invoking Easy-Setup.
