Start Windows 98. 2. Extract the drivers onto the hard drive. 3. Click on Start -> Run. 4. Specify the installation program 'SETUP.EXE' with full path you extracted in the step 2 and click on OK. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\. 5. Click on the "Uninstall Crystal Driver" button at the pop-up window, and then select "Shut Down". Re-start Windows 98. 6. When Windows 98 detects "Unknown Device", select "Next" button. It will default to "Search for best driver for your device", press the "Next" button. This window should have search "Specify a location" checked. 7. Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\ Then click on the 'Next' button. The audio driver list appears. It will then identify the device as a "Crystal PnP Audio System CODEC" with the location of the driver set to "CWDAUDIO.INF", press the "Next" button. It will begin copying files. When coping completes, press the "Finish" button. 8. Windows 98 will now detect the PCI Multimedia Audio device. Push the "Next" button. It will default to "Search for best driver for your device", press the "Next" button. This window should have search "Specify a location" checked. 9. Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\. Then click on the 'Next' button. The audio driver list appears. It will then identify the device as a "Crystal SoundFusion(TM) PCI Audio Accelerator" with the location of the driver set to "CWCAUDIO.INF", press the "Next" button. When copying completes, press the FINISH button. See additional notes listed below. (Windows 95) NOTE: Before installing this driver, you must have DirectX 5.0 or later already on the system. 1. It will then identify the device as a "Crystal PnP Audio System CODEC". 9. Click Finish. 10. If you get a Insert Disk window, press OK. 11. In the "Copy files from:" box, specify the directory where the driver files are extracted and click on the 'OK' button. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\ 12. If you get a "Received File being copied is older: vjoyd.vxd, Joystick Virtual Device, Your version 4.5.155" Click OK. 13. Windows 95 will now detect the PCI Multimedia Audio Device. 14. Click Next -> Other Location... Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\ 15. Click OK, then click on Finish. 16. At the Insert Disk window, click OK. 17. In the "Copy files from:" box, specify the directory where the driver files are extracted and click on the 'OK' button. Default path is C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\ It will then identify the device as a "Crystal SoundFusion(TM) PCI Audio Accelerator". Note 1: After the installation, you should find the following drivers installed under "Sound, Video, and game controllers" in Device Manager: Crystal PnP Audio System CODEC Crystal PnP Audio System Control Registers Crystal PnP Audio System Joystick Crystal PnP Audio System MPU-401 Compatible Crystal SoundFusion(TM) PCI Audio Accelerator Crystal SoundFusion(TM) Virtual MPU-401 Note 2: If you experienced boot time error in CONFIG.SYS at "Restart in MS-DOS mode"(file not found error), you need to modify its property as follows. 1. Open property of c:\Windows\Exit to DOS.pif (EXITTO~1.PIF) file from "My Computer" or Windows Explore. 2. Click "Program" tab to access program settings then press "Advanced..." button. 3. There are two list box in the program settings window. Slide the list down of the upper list box, "CONFIG.SYS for MS-DOS Mode:" with its slider. 4. Confirm there is an entry, "Device=C:\WINDOWS\cwbinit.exe /A" at the bottom of the list. 5. Move mouse pointer to anywhere in "Device=C:\WINDOWS\cwbinit.exe /A" line, and click left button once. 6. A cursor appears on that line. Then move cursor with left/right arrow keys to modify "cwbinit" to "cwdinit".(b -> d) 7. After this modification has been done, press "OK" button to exit "Advanced". 8.
