WHAT IS NS/2? System Applicatgion Architecture (SAA (TM)) Networking Services/2 Version 1.0 provides Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking (APPN) capability and a key addition to the SAA common communications support (CCS) in the Operating System/2 (R) Extended Edition (Os/2 (R) EE) enviornment. It provides end node and network node support, allowing workstations to participate in a peer network with other small, mid-range, and large systems. This support enables greater flexibility in network design. See Programming Announcement 291-079, dated march 5, 1991. Networking Services/2 enhances the OS/2 EE Advanced Program-to-Program Communications (APPC) Application Programming Interface (API) by providing significant performance improvements and reducing, substantially, network definition. It also supports the SAA Common Programming Interface for Communictions (CPI-C), enabling greater portability of applications across different enviornments. The customer need not modify existing APPC programs to utilize Networking Services/2 functional capabilities. (TM) Trademark of International Business Machines Corporation.
