Your monitor might not support all refresh rates and display modes listed. 2.0 Installing the S3 Video Device Driver for Windows NT 3.51 ______________________________________________________________ To install the S3 video device driver: 1. Start Windows NT 3.51 in VGA mode: When the "Please select the operating system to start..." message is displayed, select WINDOWS NT WORKSTATION VERSION 3.51 [VGA MODE]. 2. Double-click on the CONTROL PANEL icon in the Main window. 3. Double-click on the DISPLAY icon. 4. In the Display Settings window, click on the CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE button. The Display Type window appear. 5. Under Adapter Type, click on the CHANGE button. 6. In the Select Device window, click on the OTHER button. 7. Insert the diskette containing the S3 Trio video device driver for Windows NT 3.51 into drive A; then click on the OK button. 8. Select S3 VIDEO DRIVER UPDATE from the list; then click on the INSTALL button. 9. If the following message appears: "This operation will change your system configuration. Do you want to proceed anyway?", click on YES. o If a message appears stating the driver is already installed on the system, and asks if you want to use the current or new drivers, be sure to select the NEW button. o If prompted for the driver diskette a second time, click on the CONTINUE button. 10. When the message "The drivers were successfully installed" is displayed, remove the driver diskette from the drive; then click on the OK button. 11. When the message "The driver could not be started dynamically. Please restart Windows NT to run with the new driver." is displayed, click on the OK button. 12. In the Display Settings Change window, click on the RESTART NOW button. Note: If you are installing Windows NT 3.51 and the S3 Trio64V2 chip set is currently installed in your computer, proceed through the Windows NT installation as normal. The installation program will prompt you to choose a display mode. Choose the CANCEL button from the Display Settings window to ignore this step for now. The installation will now finish. Once Windows NT has started for the first time, proceed to follow the steps outlined above to install the video device driver for the S3 Trio64V2. 3.0 Changing the Video Settings or Refresh Rate ________________________________________________ To change the video settings or refresh rate: 1. Start Windows NT 3.51. 2. In the Main window, double-click on the CONTROL PANEL icon. 3. Double-click on the DISPLAY icon. The screen appearance can be changed using the Color Palette, Desktop Area, Refresh Frequency, and Font Size settings. 4. Make the desired changes; then click on the TEST button. 5. When the changes are satisfactory, click on OK, YES (if image is displayed), and then RESTART NOW to activate the changes. Note: To enable DDC monitor detection, select HARDWARE DEFAULT for the monitor refresh rate for each resolution. 4.0 Setting Your Monitor to VGA Mode _____________________________________ To set your monitor to VGA mode: 1. Start Windows NT 3.51. 2. In the Main window, double-click on the CONTROL PANEL icon. 3. Double-click on the DISPLAY icon. 4. Click on the CHANGE DISPLAY TYPE button. 5. In the Adapter Type section, click on the CHANGE button 6. Select VGA COMPATIBLE GRAPHICS ADAPTER from the list. 7. Click on INSTALL. 8. Click on YES to change the system configuration. 9. If a message appears stating that the device driver is already installed, click on NEW. 10.
